Hi, I’m Susan Attel

MEET YOUR GUIDE

Dallas Functional Medicine Practitioner

AND I KNOW WHAT IT’S LIKE To NOT FEEL YOUR BEST, DESPERATE FOR A WAY BACK TO HEALTH + VITALITY

I truly believe in a more holistic, systems-based approach—especially in women’s health. Through personal family health challenges, I discovered functional medicine and its powerful potential to restore health by addressing root causes rather than symptoms alone. This approach made sense: an integration of mind, body, spirit, and science that fosters true healing.

Today, I’m passionate about helping individuals and families thrive using evidence-based, personalized strategies that support balance, resilience, and whole-body wellness. I believe in the power of deep listening—the kind that uncovers the full story of your health—and I’m here to guide you toward clarity, healing, and vitality.

My Personal Story

I’ve been in a laughter-filled marriage since 2005 and am the proud mom of two incredible children—plus one spirited German Shorthair Pointer who rounds out our family. Whether volunteering at church, supporting schools, or serving with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, I’ve always found purpose in building relationships and promoting whole-person health. I find joy in playing violin and singing at church, hiking, cooking, and being present for the unfolding journey of our children’s lives.

Supporting their health has deeply shaped my approach. From helping my son recover from pitching strain to navigating cystic fibrosis care and medication side effects with my daughter, I’ve come to rely on root-cause discernment as my compass. These personal experiences have made functional medicine not just a professional path—but a personal mission

My Background

I’m a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner with a deep-rooted commitment to integrative and functional health. My journey began in music therapy at Florida State University, where I studied for three years before feeling a strong pull toward healthcare. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Baylor University in 1999, followed by a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2003. I became board certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in 2004.

Early in my career, I worked in neurology and epilepsy outreach at Parkland Hospital before transitioning to an integrative family medicine practice, where I spent five formative years. I then returned to Parkland to serve in outpatient women’s health for 12 years, caring for underserved and medically complex patients throughout Dallas County. Sensing there was more to healthcare than the conventional protocols we were trained to follow, I became a certified practitioner by the Institute for Functional Medicine and am now at Carpathia Health, where I collaborate with a team of providers to offer healing modalities that are a lifeline for so many, listening and providing space for those who feel chronically overextended, carrying a heavy burden of responsibilities and decisions. The healing comes from within, the body is designed for it, and I am honored to serve as a guide for so many to (in the precious words of Bob Dylan) lay down their weary tune” and focus on recovering true balance in life and health.
